From 1963 members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) competed against the Canadian Army (Militia) and from 1968 the Canadian Forces (Reserve).

On 28 August 1991 a new Canadian Queen's Medal was introduced to replace the British award (see below). This medal was first awarded in the summer of 1992.
